OVERVIEW

What we do here.

A lot of infrastructure exists because somebody once clicked through a console. It works, nobody can explain all of it, and rebuilding it would be an archaeology project.

Describing it in code changes that. The environment can be rebuilt from scratch, every change is reviewed like any other change, and the setup stops living in one person's memory.

Existing infrastructure gets imported and described gradually rather than torn down. You can still change things quickly, the difference is there is a record of what changed and why, instead of a mystery setting nobody can account for in six months.

COMMON QUESTIONS

The questions we get asked about Infrastructure as Code

Environments that exist only because somebody once clicked through a console. When it is described in code, it can be rebuilt, reviewed and reasoned about.

Often yes, because small teams are the ones who cannot afford to lose the only person who knows how it was configured.

Yes. Existing infrastructure gets imported and described gradually rather than torn down and rebuilt.

You still can. The change goes through code so there is a record of it, rather than a mystery setting nobody can explain in six months.
