What we do here.

Plenty of businesses have monitoring and still find out from a customer. Graphs nobody watches are not monitoring, they are decoration.

What matters is that a problem reaches the right person quickly, with enough detail to act on. We alert on things somebody must do something about and leave the rest to be reviewed later, because alerts that fire constantly get muted and then the real one gets muted with them.

What gets watched is chosen against your systems rather than a default list, usually uptime, errors, response times, disk and queue depth. Alerts go to whoever you decide, through something they actually read at the weekend.
